The Purpose Behind the Lab

Welcome to Ground Zero Performance Lab. We are excited that you want to know more about your physiology and our Performance Systems. At Ground Zero, we aim to educate fitness enthusiasts and athletes on the metabolic test used by endurance athletes for many years. These systems have been tried and tested by elite athletes and are considered the “gold standard” in athletic performance.

It used to be that metabolic assessments were exclusive to professional athletes. You would go to a lab, get hooked to a computer, wear a mask with hoses, and run on a treadmill. Not anymore. With wireless technology and portability, we can now make metabolic assessments accessible to anyone, anywhere. While we still use the treadmill, we can make these assessments in any modality, on any equipment, or field testing.

Like blood panels, metabolic wellness has become another health marker. For example, your VO₂ max correlates to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and all-cause mortality. It’s so important that “wearables” now track your heart rate, HRV, VO2 Max, recovery, steps, calories, etc. While wearables are great, they use algorithms based on general population estimates. We do things different.

We use objective physiological data that shows how your body produces energy, utilizes oxygen, burns fuel, responds to stress, tolerates intensity, and recovers from exercise. At its core, our metabolic assessments provide data-driven answers to the most critical questions in exercise physiology and daily performance:

  1. Energy Systems: Which fuel source is my body utilizing at various intensities?

  2. Respiratory Efficiency: How effectively do my lungs and heart deliver oxygen during exercise?

  3. Physical Thresholds: What are my true physiological limits, and how far can I push?

  4. Recovery: Am I showing signs of being under-recovered, under-fueled, or overtraining?

  5. Progress Tracking: Am I continuously improving, or have I hit a performance plateau?

Our goal is simple: Understand. Optimize. Perform. By measuring what is happening beneath the surface, we can create a clear roadmap for improved health, fitness, and athletic performance.

Again, thank you for your interest! We can’t wait to serve you.
